Learning disabilities affect individuals in diverse ways, influencing their ability to learn, understand, and communicate. These disabilities vary greatly—some individuals might face challenges with daily tasks such as household chores, social interaction, or managing finances, while others may require assistance in more targeted areas like job support or filling out forms.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your central nervous system (the nerves in your brain and spinal cord). It is thought to be an autoimmune condition. This means that your immune system which usually helps to fight off infection, mistakenly attacks your central nervous system. As a result of the attack the protein and fatty substance that surrounds and the protects your nerves (called myelin) is eaten away.

An acquired brain injury (ABI) refers to any type of brain damage that happens after birth. Brain damage caused from an ABI can lead to changes in structure in one or multiple areas of the brain, which often affect normal brain functions. Impairments sustained from an ABI can last anywhere from days to a lifetime.

The spinal cord serves as the primary pathway between the brain and the rest of the body. Within the spinal cord there are 31 pairs of nerves which are essential for transmitting signals that control voluntary movements, such as walking and grasping, and for conveying sensory.

When the spinal cord sustains damage, this vital communication pathway is disrupted, leading to significant changes in mobility and sensation. You may experience paralysis or a loss of movement, and a sensation in affected areas. Furthermore, the injury can impair voluntary control over certain bodily functions, manifesting as challenges in managing bladder and bowel activities, among others.

Dementia is an umbrella term for a group of conditions which affect the brain and are characterised by a decline in memory, problems with communications, impaired reasoning, and difficulties with daily living skills. These changes can disrupt an individual's ability to live independently and may affect their social relationships.

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a disease which affects a set of nerves called found in your brain and spinal cord called motor neurones. These are the nerves which tell your muscles what to do. With MND messages from these nerves eventually stop telling your muscles what to do which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink, and breathe.
